The #FridayFive for June 6th

Social Media Marketing, Social Media Strategy

Happy Friday everyone! Today we continue the tradition of the #FridayFive here at Tracx. Each Friday, we’ll provide a quick rundown of our favorite content that gathered significant traction on social throughout the week. These trends are identified using the Community Dashboard in the Tracx Social Enterprise Platform.

Using Tracx technology, this dashboard collects trending content to present a complete and holistic view of what’s popular across the social web, in real-time. This information is invaluable for people and enterprises that want to produce content that is highly relevant, and who also want to weigh in on the most current topics possible. While the #FridayFive will always consist of content that yielded significant attention in the social media world, these lists are comprised of the trends that grabbed OUR attention the most. They might be informative, controversial, or comical.

#UberCOOL

Uber has implemented some creative marketing, yet again. The groundbreaking transportation company has teamed up with Quirky and GE to bring UberCOOL to NYC. This summer, residents of the city suffering from the smothering heat and humidity can have an Aros smart air conditioning unit delivered to their apartment on demand. The unit itself allows the owner to control the temperature of their apartment from anywhere via smartphone, and UberCOOL will deliver the unit right to your apartment door. People are clearly loving this idea, as #UberCOOL trended heavily this week, with overwhelmingly positive sentiment. Learn more about UberCOOL here.

Peter Dinklage

WOW… Peter Dinklage is my hero… As a HUGE Game of Thrones fan and someone who has been on Team Tyrion since the early seasons of the HBO series, I felt a series of emotions ranging from glee, to pride, to pure respect when I saw that this picture was trending this week. Besides having an epic quote that reads, “Words are tools of imagery in motion,” the actor’s late 80’s style mullet can only be described as Lannister in the front, Dothraki in the back. Social networkers went crazy sharing this image this week, causing it to spread like viral wildfire.

Practically all of the internet shares the opinion of @KasunWeer:

#HappyValley

Happy Valley is a 6 episode modern British crime drama/thriller, and after the finale was broadcasted this past Tuesday #HappyValley became the number one global trending topic on Twitter. While the show is incredibly popular in the UK – it has attracted well over 6 million weekly viewers – unless you live there you can’t watch the program…even via live stream. Basically, the show is about a no-nonsense Yorkshire police sergeant named Catherine Cawood, who confronts danger on an every day basis. People obviously respect the middle-aged heroine, as much of the social content relevant to #HappyValley pays homage to her toughness and grit.

Dan Marino Joins Concussion Lawsuit Against NFL

This YouTube video surfaced as trending in our Community Dashboard, and although the number of views isn’t staggering, it addresses an issue that I am particularly interested in. As many people know, the NFL is under severe scrutiny for having a history of “turning a blind eye” towards players suffering from concussions and other injuries that have long term effects on the quality of life of retired athletes. Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino is now filing a lawsuit against the NFL in which he states that “he may have suffered long term effects from violence in the game, and dangers that the league ignored.” He is the highest profile player to date to legally challenge the league’s stance on injury prevention. I also found Michael Strahan’s two cents to be thought provoking as well.

Game 1

“Game 1” trended heavily this week, and for good reason. Wednesday night was game one of the Stanley Cup finals, in which the LA Kings defeated the New York Rangers 3 to 2, and on Saturday the Miami Heat will take on the San Antonio Spurs in game one of the NBA Finals. As one could predict, much of the content produced surrounding “Game 1” was comprised of fans simply showing support for their favorite teams. Regardless of if you like hockey or basketball, both of these series will be a blast to watch!
